The backpacks and bags are made of ecological cotton, merino wool or recycled fibers. Recycled polyester comes from industrial waste and PET bottles, while recycled wool comes from old clothing and the leftovers of new fabrics. In this way, the fabrics and materials are climate-friendly and, above all, the recycled materials save resources and energy during production and processing. As a bluesign partner, operational audits are regularly carried out across the entire supply chain. All processing steps are taken into account, from the materials to energy consumption to water and air emissions. KLÄTTERMUSEN products are also GOTS certified.
The company also focuses on environmental protection and innovation when it comes to technology. For example, KLÄTTERMUSEN was the first company to develop an alternative to DWR treatment with fluorocarbons. These processes are used to make fabrics water-repellent. Normally fluorocarbons are used for this, but they can disrupt the hormonal balance. Thanks to its innovation, KLÄTTERMUSEN is also the first company to offer waterproof and breathable products that are completely PFOA-free.
