As a family business, VAUDE has stood for tradition, sustainability and first-class craftsmanship since it was founded in 1974 by Albrecht von Dewitz. In addition to clothing and backpacks for alpine and mountain regions, the sports outfitter also offers equipment for cyclists . In total, the company serves three business areas: Mountain Sport, Bike Sport and Packs'n Bags. Today the company is still 100% family-owned. Since Antje von Dewitz, the daughter of the company founder, took over in 2009, the history and tradition of VAUDE have been continued.
VAUDE has been a permanent member of the Fair Wear Foundation since 2010 and takes responsibility for a green planet. Vaude belongs alongside other sustainable brands such as & Sandqvist , Melawaer or Ucon Acrobatics one of the leading manufacturers of fairly produced and ecologically sustainable outdoor equipment, such as sustainable backpacks , and thus underlines the green idea. The company has already received numerous awards for this and organizations such as Greenpeace and the WWF also underline the credibility of the sports equipment provider through their cooperation. Vaude has set itself the goal of becoming “the most environmentally friendly outdoor outfitter in Europe” .
The company's production facilities are located on Lake Constance, Germany and Asia. Through constant controls at all production sites, VAUDE ensures uniform ecological and social standards.

VAUDE has made a name for itself especially among bicycle enthusiasts . From a simple day trip to a multi-day bike tour, you are well prepared with VAUDE products. VAUDE now plays a pioneering role in sustainability and ecological and social responsibility. As early as the mid-1990s, the first attempts were made to fully recycle functional clothing for outdoor athletes as part of the Ecolog recycling network. Since 2001, VAUDE has been setting new standards for production with “bluesign”. The entire textile value chain is constantly checked and assessed. This means that “bluesign” not only defines the guidelines for avoiding environmentally harmful substances in production, but also checks and ensures compliance with environmentally friendly production.
The company relies on sustainable and recycled materials . Whether for the outdoor jacket, the hiking backpack or the tent - all materials used in production in Germany are produced by selected suppliers. During the development phase, every material and all individual components go through the company's own test laboratory in order to meet the high quality requirements. Only materials that pass this test are allowed into series production. In addition to the high quality standards, every product must meet ecological requirements. VAUDE is committed to a world worth living in - clearly visible in the Green Shape label.
The sustainability strategy, i.e. the “Vaude Ecosystem” , is based on the mission statement and company values. Responsibility for people and nature is evident along the entire value chain and in all decisions the company makes - from the materials and products, to the selection of suppliers, to the working conditions and production locations. The company headquarters in southern Germany is not only climate neutral, but also EMAS certified. With its own Green Shape label, functional, environmentally friendly products are made from sustainable materials. The assessment criteria are strict and transparent.
